Who we are
At Open Heart + Mind, we believe in the power of art and science to change the world. We create community arts gatherings as a safe space to explore new ways to recognise and reward contributions, paving the way for a more collaborative, gift-based society.
Community Arts
As a registered arts charity, we create diverse and inclusive gatherings where people can share their art, ideas, wisdom, goods and services with the community. Our gatherings are based on Burning Man (e.g., Gifting, Self-expression, Inclusion) and open science principles (e.g., Transparency, Replicability). We aim to develop transparent contribution templates that anyone can use to replicate our gatherings in a decentralised and autonomous fashion.
Open Research
We experiment with new ways to give fair credit for public goods and services. We record community contributions and conduct open peer-review to estimate their value and recognize contributors. Learnings from these experiments feed into WISDOM, our open source framework for self-organizing communities. At OHM, we’re developing WisdOHM, an instance of this framework that rewards contributors with OHMnoms as a token of gratitude for their contributions.
Ways to Give
Donations are vital for our progress. Donors can either earn a tax credit through our Australian charity, or choose to have their donation recognized under WisdOHM. Since all valuations are relative and subject to review, we can’t guarantee any specific rewards, but past data suggest that donations are rewarded at around 0.6 OHMnoms per dollar invested. We do expect that early-stage donations will be more appreciated than later-stage donations, when they are less critical, but this hypothesis remains to be tested.
Core Team
Open Heart + Mind is a dynamically evolving, collaborative effort, where everyone can participate and earn recognition for their efforts. Like the heart of a living tree, our cOHMunity has had a foundational core of contributors since our very first gathering: the OHMcore Team.
