The inaugural OHM Gathering was hosted over 3 days in the lead up to the Winter Solstice 2023, at a magical site in Numinbah Valley, Gold Coast, Australia. There were no tickets, with every participant making an offering and being selected to participate via an open community review process. Offerings were recorded in our transparent workspace and reviewed using a range of processes depending on the offering type, spanning from simple upvotes (workshop offerings) and thresholds (financial offerings) to more complex multidimensional ratings (lead role offerings).
Gifting experiences
Our 111 invited participants then came together to co-create a family-friendly, fun-filled weekend, with a diverse array of art, music, science, wellbeing and culture spread across multiple spaces, including a music stage, workshop space, circus space, aerial trapeze, and children’s area. The highlight of the weekend was a powerful burn ceremony led by Angela Sierra (pictured above) and featuring a rainbow ouroborus effigy, fire dancers, live music and the debut performance of an original song written for the occasion by Alexis Star.
Giving thanks
We are deeply grateful to everyone who showed up and co-created this experience, and in awe of the magic that we created at our first official multi-day OHM Gathering. Thank you to the land and to our Indigenous custodian participants who welcomed everyone with traditional smoking and ochre painting ceremonies, and to all of our cOHMunity for their unique contributions throughout the weekend. Stay tuned for the next phase of this project, where we will review diverse contributions throughout the weekend under WisdOHM and reward our contributors with OHMnoms, our token of collective gratitude.
